Visiting the magnificent palace complex at Persepolis was founded by Darius the Great around 518 B.C. In 1979 the ruins were designated a UNESCO World Heritage site. Visiting Naqsh-e Rustam that is the necropolis of the Achaemenid dynasty with four large tombs cut high into the cliff face and a group of ancient Iranian rock reliefs cut into the cliff, from both the Achaemenid and Sassanid periods.
